Welcome to the Sonoma County Assessor's Office
The Assessor's Office is a division of the Clerk-Recorder-Assessor and is responsible for providing accurate and timely property assessments and for determining eligibility for various property tax exemptions and exclusions.
There are approximately 183,000 parcels of land in Sonoma County and the Assessor's Office is responsible for determining the assessed value of each parcel for property tax purposes in accordance with California's property tax laws. We currently have a staff of 64 who perform this complex, challenging, and rewarding job.

Various private companies are sending mailings to property owners offering to assist them with filing a Homeowner's Exemption for a one-time processing fee ranging from $25.00 to $59.00.
Homeowner's Exemption forms are available at the Assessor's public service counter (or by calling the Assessor's Office at (707) 565-1888) and can be filed at no cost. Additional information about Homeowner's Exemptions
California's property tax laws provide a mechanism for the Assessor to adjust assessed values to recognize destruction caused by a calamity or misfortune which damages real or personal property. To qualify for a calamity adjustment the property must have suffered more than $10,000 worth of damage and the owner must file a claim form with the Assessor within 12 months of the date of the calamity. Calamities do not include damage which occurs over time such as termite damage, gradual earth movements or vineyard diseases such as phylloxera. There are slightly different rules that apply depending on whether the damage is caused by a widespread event that results in a Governor’s proclamation of disaster or by a specific misfortune such as flood, fire or landslide. Temporary reductions to your property's taxable value on the Assessment Roll can be initiated by either you or the Assessor. Use the links below for additional information and application forms.
Please note: If your property assessment was temporarily reduced as a "Decline in Value" property for 2015-16, you do not need to file another informal application for 2016-17. The next review will be initiated by the Assessor for properties in this category.
Please note: The deadline to file a 2016-2017 Informal Request for Decline in Market Value Reassessment is June 30th, 2016. If you miss the June 30th deadline, you may protect your rights and ensure a review of the 2016 assessed value by filing a 2016-17 Assessment Appeal by November 30th, 2016.

By entering a valid parcel number you will receive the parcel's assessed values by assessment category (land, improvements, personal property, exemptions, and the net assessed value). If you request a fax-back, the fax will list not only the assessed values by category, but also the assessee, the assessee's mailing address, the parcel's situs address, and the parcel's tax rate area (TRA) code.
