European Grapevine Moth (EGVM)

Your help is needed to keep the European Grapevine Moth (EGVM) from getting established and spreading in Sonoma County. EGVM is a new pest recently found in Sonoma County. Maps – EGVM Quarantine Others in the community are working together and taking measures to eradicate this destructive pest. Here is what you can do to help stop the spread of EGVM.

Sanitation
Make sure that equipment and vehicles used in the maintenance and/ or harvest of the vineyard is free of host material before it leaves the vineyard. All containers used to transport the grapes must be free of host material after every use.

Green Waste
Unfermented pomace which has been pressed to 28 psi or 2 bars may be distributed anywhere in California except to a vineyard outside of the quarantine area Unfermented pomace which has not been pressed to 28 psi or 2 bars may be disposed of in one of the following ways:

  • Placed into a city/county curbside green waste container or
  • Transported by an approved green waste hauler to an approved green waste receiver.

Transporting Grapes from Vineyards in the Quarantine Area
If you will be moving grapes from a vineyard within the quarantine area you must obtain a European Grapevine Moth Compliance Agreement from the Sonoma County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office Compliance Agreements.

Grape Spills (PDF: 291kB)
need to be reported as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours after the spill, to the Sonoma County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office.

Grape Growers
Grape growers within the EGVM quarantine area need a compliance agreement if grapes will be moving from their properties. There are additional requirements to ship grapes out of the quarantine area. Please see Shipment of Wine Grapes Out of Sonoma County.

Unregulated Materials
Grape must, juice and fermented pomace are exempt from EGVM regulations.
