European Grapevine Moth (EGVM)

Tarping of Winegrapes

All shipments of grapes from vineyards within the EGVM quarantine area must be slack-filled or tarped as indicated below.

Shipments of grapes do not need to be tarped unless they are from a vineyard within 500 meters of EGVM Finds After August 6, 2010 which was NOT treated for the first and second generation of EGVM in the current year.

If shipping untarped the following protocols must be followed:

  • hand harvested grapes may be filled to no less than 4 inches below the rim of the container, or
  • mechanically harvested grapes may be filled to no less than 12 inches below the rim of the container

If the pre-harvest treatments were not applied to a vineyard within 500 meters of an EGVM find after August 6, 2010, then grapes may be moved only when tightly covered (i.e. tarped, screened, covered by stacked bins, etc.).
