Analysis
of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice
-
update in process
The County of Sonoma and the Cities of Santa Rosa and Petaluma have retained BBC Research and Consulting (BBC) to update their Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice.
Sonoma County and large
cities in the region receive grant funds from the Department of Housing
and Urban Development (HUD) to fund housing and community development
programs. As such, these communities are required to periodically examine
performance in “affirmatively furthering fair housing choice.” BBC Research & Consulting (BBC), a consulting firm with national expertise in fair housing studies, was hired to examine impediments to fair housing choice in Sonoma County.
The methodology for the study includes an analysis of housing market
conditions; a review of city and county land use and zoning policies;
interviews with housing providers, service providers and real estate
professionals; an online survey of stakeholders; a survey of residents;
and a series of public discussions about fair housing concerns and
barriers in the region. Results are expected mid to late summer 2011.
