County of Sonoma - Buildings
Sonoma County owns and leases hundreds of buildings throughout the County. Through our occupancy of these buildings, we create over 15,000 tons of Greenhouse Gas (GHG).
Greening County Buildings
Besides the obvious things we do to save energy and reduce our emissions, such as use compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFL) instead of incandescent lighting, installing LED exit signs and room light sensors, the County has taken some pretty big steps toward greening our buildings:
- Solar Power
- Recycling
- Thermal Energy Storage
- Instant Hot Water
- Cool Roof Installation
Future Projects
We are always exploring alternative energy solutions for our buildings. We take in the suggestions of our employees, and make improvements to the way things work every day. The County is exploring the idea of installing a fuel cell. The fuel cell would take the County Administration Center off the electrical power grid, and play a large roll in our Comprehensive Energy Plan and further enable us to reach our goal of cutting GHG emissions by 20% in Sonoma County buildings by 2010.
