Volunteer Program

Man standing on Sonoma County hillsideEstablished in 1984, the County of Sonoma Volunteer Program places hundreds of people each year throughout County departments.  County volunteers invest energy, skills, and talent to make Sonoma County a better place to live.  Last year over 2,000 volunteers and interns, plus numerous community groups, donated their time throughout 20 County departments.  In addition to the priceless gift of community spirit, their contribution is valued at over 3.5 million dollars.

Here are just a few ways volunteers make a difference:

  • Mentoring and advocating for abused and neglected children
  • Helping in search and rescue of lost or missing people
  • Walking dogs and socializing cats, increasing their chances for adoption
  • Helping clean-up hazardous materials spills
  • Acting as a live-in campground host for Regional Parks
