This
is the first phase of a multi phased project as described in the Central
Sonoma Valley Bikeway Plan Final Report dated November 15, 2001. The
report identified a 2.76-mile conceptual bike/pedestrian pathway from
Verano Avenue to Agua Caliente Road in the Sonoma Valley area. Please
see Figure 3 titled “Preferred Alignment.” The pathway would provide
pedestrians and bicyclists an alternative route to Highway 12.
For
the first phase, the proposed pathway starts at Larson Park which is
owned by the County, continues through Flowery Elementary School, and
ends at Highway 12. Please see aerial plan titled “Central Sonoma Valley
Bikeway – Draft.” The first phase has been split into two segments in order to build
a portion of the bikeway while right of way issues near Flowery Elementary
School are resolved. The first segment is located at Larson Park and
the second segment is located at Flowery Elementary School. The construction
of the Larson Park segment is scheduled for completion in May 2011.
The project is funded by Proposition 40 – 2002 Resources Bond Act, Transportation Development Act Article 3, and Measure M.
