Construction Update – September 2011

The Phase 3 project was a combination of flood damage repair and restoration of the river bank in the northern area of the park. The work included the removal of a failing levee, grading to restore the bank to a more natural terraced profile, the installation of willow fascines, siltation baffles, and willow poles, boulder wing deflectors, erosion control measures, and the planting of over 450 native trees and shrubs to establish riparian and oak woodland habitat.

This project also included the addition of family picnic sites, paths, and a boat launch area with parking for kayaks, canoes and drift boats. Future improvements to be completed as part of this phase include interpretive displays on riparian habitat.

This project was funded by Park Mitigation Fees, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the California Emergency Management Agency (formerly Office of Emergency Services), and a River Parkways grant from the California Natural Resources Agency through Proposition 50.
