Riverfront Regional Park
FEMA TRAIL REPAIR PROJECT – September to October 2011
Regional Parks will be performing trail repair and improvement work on the west side of Lake Benoist from the end of September 2011 until the end of October 2011.
The new trail design is intended to mitigate for the damage to this section of trail from periodic flooding on the Russian River that flows over the weir at this location. The work will consist of installing rip rap and raising the trail section along this side of the lake. The raised trail will allow water to flow through the large rock underneath the trail during low flows, and the rip rap and willow planting will stabilize the trail section against high flows during periods of flooding. The end result will be a loop trail that can provide a greater level of access during the rainy season.
There will be a large amount of truck traffic through the park delivering materials to the project site, and equipment performing grading operations. This will directly affect the public’s use of the trails. Please observe trail closure signs and be alert for changing circulation patterns and conditions.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you in advance for your patience.
This project is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the California Emergency Management Agency (CalEMA).
